FAQs

Making a decision regarding care for a loved one can be mind-boggling and stressful. There are so many options, so many considerations. You need all of the tools available to assist you in such a personal decision. Listed below are some frequently-asked questions and answers that we hope will be helpful.

How long have you been in business?

By Design Home Care was founded in 2006 by Ellen McClellan, a Registered Nurse. Prior to forming By Design Home Care, Ellen worked as an RN for 18 years in San Antonio with experience in Medical Surgical, Neonatal, Pediatric, Geriatric and Home Health.

What services can you provide?

We can provide a range of clinical and custodial services based on our client’s assessments. Please review our services link for more specific descriptions of care.

Are you able to provide medication assistance and other skilled nursing services?

Yes, not only do we have licensed nurses on staff who can administer medications and perform any skilled services that a client may require but, in addition to our PAS (Personal Assistance Services) license, we also have a skilled nursing license.

Are your caregivers insured and bonded?

Yes, our caregivers are insured and bonded. We also provide Workmen’s Compensation, liability and unemployment insurances. Backgrounds are checked for proper licensure and/or certification, criminal history records, CNA registry background and general good health.

What are your fees?

Our fees are listed on our “Services” page. They range from companion/sitter to skilled nursing care. We have a four-hour minimum but also offer a flat rate for care requests of less than four hours.

Do you require a deposit prior to starting service?

No, we do not require a deposit prior to starting service.

Do I pay the caregiver?

N0, the caregiver is never paid by the client. They are By Design Home Care employees and are paid by us. By Design Home Care will bill you directly for services. We are also responsible for payment of all taxes.

Do you provide services in places other than in the home?

Yes, in addition to providing care in a home, we also have clients in independent living and assisted living communities, memory care facilities, personal care homes, long-term care facilities and hospitals. Often, families live out of town and are unable to assess and monitor loved ones needs each day. In the absence of family involvement, we advocate for the client to ensure care and well-being.

We hope these questions and answers will assist you with the decision-making process. If you have additional questions or need more information, please give us a call. We are more than happy to discuss any aspects or concerns of home care with you at any time.
